HUMBLE BEGINNINGS THE VICTOR LEGACY A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR
The Victor has become a tremendous part of ministry at the Tanglewood Church. The idea of our church performing an Easter drama came from the minister of music who was serving our church in 1995. When he came across the original material, he believed this could be a great ministry for our church, but knew it would have to wait another year; Easter was only 6 weeks away. What he didn’t know was the heart of the people at Tanglewood Church. The first performances of The Victor took place that very year because of the prayer, strong dedication, and love for ministry within our church family. God moved in such a mighty way that year and we were overwhelmed with the response from the community and hunger to hear and see the truth of Easter. The original plan of one performance a night for one weekend turned into two performances a night when we couldn’t fit everyone in the sanctuary. God blessed our sacrifice and has continually amazed us every year since then. The Victor involves over 200 cast and crew every night and takes months of preparation, yet, we know that all of our efforts would be void if it weren’t for God stepping in every year and moving in the lives of people in our church, our city, and surrounding communities. God has helped us grow this ministry and has seen us through many transitions (a new sanctuary, retirement and loss of cast members, training new cast members, scenery changes, pastoral changes, director changes) and yet the truth of Easter always remains the same, God is merciful and faithful. The Victor is a ministry for our church as much as it is for our community. Many people have been sitting in a performance as a visitor and find themselves part of our church family and on stage the next Victor season. Some people in our church will say, “Easter just isn’t Easter without The Victor”. It has become a way for our church to celebrate the sacrifice God made for each and every one of us. It has been amazing to watch the changes in our cast and our ministry over the past fifteen years. There will be young adults involved in each performance this year who were toddlers asleep under the pews in 1995 while their parents were struggling to pull together the first year’s performances. We are truly thankful for the sacrifices of our church family and community, and humbled by God’s love and compassion for each and every one of us; for He truly is “The Victor”. Our purpose at Tanglewood Church is to bring people face to face with Jesus Christ. One of our greatest tools in accomplishing that purpose is the Victor Experience. That's right, it is an experience. You'll witness His Life, His miracles as well as His death, burial and resurrection. Don't you think it's about time you met the Victor. Come and join us for one of this year's performances. I promise, you will never be the same again! -Pastor Allen Stocks
